Drew Hittenberger Attends Northern California Post Polio Conference
Drew Hittenberger was the only orthotist to attend the Northern California Post Polio Conference, "We Are Still Here - Living with the Effects of Polio," a conference for polio survivors and the medical community interested in polio and the management of post polio effects.
Drew Hittenberger, CP, BOCO was the only orthotist to attend the Northern California Post Polio Conference, "We Are Still Here - Living with the Effects of Polio" sponsored by the San Francisco Bay Area Polio Survivor (SFBAPS) on September 20, 2014. SFBAPS is a support group for polio survivors and the medical community interested in polio and the management of post polio effects.
This conference was co-hosted by the Shriners Hospital of Sacramento, California/North Coast Post-Polio Group and the Sacramento Post Polio Support Group.
This conference brought together the foremost medical authorities on polio such as, Dr. Lauro Halstead, Former Director of the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dr. Rhoda Olkin, Director of the Institute on Disability and Health Psychology, Dr. Frando Torres-Gill, Director ULCA Center for Policy Research on Aging and member of the National Council on the Aging and Dr. Carol Vandenakker founder of the UC Davis Medical Center Post Polio Clinic.
The effects of polio last a life time. Over 250 polio survivors attended. They came from around the United States and from as far away as India. This conference presented the latest treatment alternatives to manage this almost forgotten disease.
